For video game fans, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is Christmas before its time. Over several days, a procession of sold-out press conferences, revealed release dates, announced projects and exclusive videos parades at a show usually held in Los Angeles and considered one of the most important in the industry.
Scheduled from June 12 to 15, this 2021 edition will be unprecedented in more than one way, because it follows the cancellation of the show in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and that the show will take place online.
Where to follow the event?
The easiest way to follow the conferences is to go to the official E3 channels (YouTube, Twitch, Facebook). But, according to your preferences, you can also go on the platforms of the partner media (indicated on the E3 website) or on the usual channels of the organizers of the different events (the links are indicated next to each of them). between them).
Thursday June 10
- Before E3: Summer Game Fest launch party (8 p.m. French time – must see here or here)
Announcements from around thirty studios (including PlayStation, Activision or Epic Games) as well as the presence of renowned guests, such as the rock band Weezer, are on the program for the opening night of the second Summer Game Fest. This Amazon-sponsored video game festival was launched in 2020, after the cancellation of E3. It now appears as a (rather tempting) appetizer of the event.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

Friday June 11
- Before E3: Koch Primetime (8 p.m. – must see here)
The name of this German media group is not necessarily very well known to the general public. However, it publishes under this name a large number of games in Europe, such as the recent Chivalry II. This company is also the parent company of publisher Deep Silver, known for the post-apocalyptic shooter. Metro Exodus. Let’s also admit that the name of the Twitch channel launched for the event “We know something you don’t know” intrigues us a lot.

It’s going to be a busy week for IGN. This site specializing in video games first offers this “showcase” (promotional meeting) devoted to new products within the framework of the Summer Game Fest before covering E3 of which it is one of the main media partners.

Faithful to E3, the French company is the first heavyweight in the industry to hold its conference there. - On the sidelines of E3: Devolver Direct conference (10:30 p.m. – must see here)
Devolver likes to play troublemakers during E3. As every year since 2017, the publisher specializing in independent games offers a parody conference. A Tweet announcing the event foreshadows in particular news of Hotline Miami 3.
- The Gearbox Entertainment conference (11 p.m. – watch on E3 channels)
The Texan studio makes no secret that Borderlands will be the headliner of the event. This franchise launched in 2009 is the subject of a film adaptation including Cate Blanchett in the cast. Its director, Eli Roth (Hostel), will be the special guest of the conference. Other announcements, for example concerning Godfall, Brother in Arms or why not Duke Nukem, are to be watched.
Sunday June 13: Day 2
- Xbox and Bethesda Conference (7 p.m. – watch here or here)
You don’t have to be a diviner to know that the blockbuster Halo Infinite, expected before the end of the year and present on the official poster of the conference, will have a good place during this event which should last an hour and a half.
With this first E3 conference bringing together Xbox (Microsoft) and Bethesda (the developer of Skyrim having been bought in March by the American giant), gamers are hoping to hear from some highly anticipated titles, like Starfield. We must also not omit some announcements from other studios bought from ZeniMax, the parent company of Bethesda, such as the French Arkane (Deathloop) or Texans Id Software (Doom).

This very busy day will end with a forty-minute presentation of Square Enix. The publisher promises to unveil a new project from his Montreal studio and to give news of Life is Strange : True Colors.
- Warner Bros Interactive Presentation (11 p.m. – watch on E3 channels)
Gamers were impatient to get news of flagship games adapted from Warner Bros. movies like Hogwarts Legacy (taking place in the universe ofHarry Potter), Gotham Knights (Batman) or Suicide Squad. None of this seems to be on the program: the studios named the event at the last moment Back 4 Blood in order to specify that the presentation will focus on this multiplayer and zombie shooter scheduled for October.
- PC Gaming Show (11:30 p.m. – watch it here)
Lovers of keyboard and mouse games will be able to watch this event organized since 2015 by the PC Gamer media. - Indie Showcase Conference (9 p.m. – watch on E3 channels)
Little information has filtered out on the content of this conference devoted to independent gaming. A partnership between E3 and the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) was however established this year in order to better showcase the “arty” game. Because beyond the plethora of blockbusters that occupy the media space during E3, this show is also a place where nuggets made by independent studios emerge.

Tuesday June 15: Day 4
- Nintendo Direct presentation (6 p.m. – must see here or here)
This pre-recorded presentation, which should last 40 minutes, is one of the big pieces of E3. Nintendo has specified that it will be mainly dedicated to Switch games that will be released in 2021, in order to silence rumors of the announcement of a new, more powerful model of this console.
The Switch, launched in 2017, is starting to date and the Japanese manufacturer has to deal with an evolution in the sector after the release of the new generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Fans are thus waiting for news of Zelda : Breath of the Wild 2 since it was announced during the 2019 edition of E3.
- Bandai Namco presentation (11:25 p.m. – watch on E3 channels)
Coming at the end of E3, this conference is rather poor. Lovers of dark fantasy will not miss it because they hope that we will know more about the game Elden Ring. Why ? Because it is sold as the fruit of the collaboration between Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of the mythical series of Dark Souls, and the author of Game of Thrones, George R. R Martin.
- E3 awards ceremony (Wednesday the 16th at 1:45 a.m. – watch on E3 channels)
Members of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the entity that brings together American video game publishers that organizes E3, are teaming up with specialist journalists to present prizes to the most anticipated games.
