The Minister of Higher Education, Frédérique Vidal, affirmed her wish for a university return to “100% face-to-face”. In addition, she announced, Friday, July 2, the creation of 14,000 places for students in stressful fields.
These places, in the “Universities [et] IFSI [Instituts de formation en soins infirmiers] », will be added to the 5,000 additional BTS announced on Thursday and the « 15 000 [créées] at the start of the year, seeing the arrival of future baccalaureate holders ”. Which leads to “Nearly 34,000” the total number of additional places for the start of the 2021-2022 school year, underlined Mme Vidal at the microphone of Europe 1.
The streams in tension, which have many more candidates than places, vary from region to region. Nursing studies are therefore particularly concerned. In law degree, for example, the wishes are almost all satisfied in Brittany, while in Ile-de-France only one candidate in two (52%) obtains a firm admission to Paris-Nanterre, one in four (27% ) at Paris-II Panthéon-Assas University (for its intramural site) and one in five at Paris-I Panthéon-Sorbonne. Staps licenses (sciences and techniques of physical and sports activities) and psychology are also in tension in many regions.
“We all need” face-to-face
The government wants this re-entry to take place “100% face-to-face”, confirmed the minister, while the scientific council expects a fourth epidemic wave of Covid-19 at the start of September.
“We all need it [d’une rentrée sur place], students, teachers and staff, need to get together, because studying is not only taking courses, it is also all that is around, student life, the ability to exchange, underlined Mme Vidal. It’s the compass, a face-to-face return. We are preparing it in great detail. “
“It is really the 100% face-to-face that is targeted” for this start of the school year, the details of which will be announced ” next week “, she insisted.
